CD Review © The Vancouver Sun Marke Andrews, Canwest News Using musical instruments and influences from India, China, the Middle East and North America, and concentrating on the traditions of India and Bangladesh, Vancouver quartet Tandava define "world music" on the 10 tracks of their self-titled CD. Though their music can be challenging - Kaladhar uses 3 time signatures, and Thai Sunrise goes through more changes than Cher at a Las Vegas Showcase, it has a soothing quality, like the calm found in the eye of a storm. Prashant John (guitars, bamboo flutes, vocals), Lan Tung (erhu, vocals), Jonathan Bernard (marimba, percussion), and Stefan Cihelka (a superb tabla player) serve an aural cocktail that is as intoxicating for a West Coast Anglo Saxon as it is for a native of Bangladesh.
